Do these to kickstart your day!
It’s safe to say the way you start your day has a significant impact on how you feel for the rest of it. Setting the tone matters—but most of us get it wrong. We wake up and immediately reach for our phones or hit snooze, starting the day by avoiding action. Before we’re even out of bed, we’ve already broken a promise to ourselves. In this article, I’ll outline a few simple habits you can implement in your morning routine, and I promise you’ll feel the benefits within 24 hours.
Rituals
Rituals are incredibly important in a morning routine. What’s great is that rituals can be fast or slow, simple or intentional—it all depends on what you’re into. Whether it’s exercise, coffee, writing, meditation, or reading, these small habits help put you in a positive mindset to start the day. For me, it’s waking up and writing for the blog, making my coffee (and enjoying every sip), and getting out the door for a run. These rituals are crucial to my identity and play a big role in shaping who I am. Find your morning ritual and commit time to it every day—it sets the tone for everything that follows.
Eating A Healthy Breakfast
What we put into our bodies plays a huge role in how we feel physically throughout the day. One of the most important parts of breakfast is what professionals like to call the rainbow. Incorporating vegetables, fruit, fiber, and protein helps stabilize energy levels so you don’t bonk at 1 p.m. As we say here at Wellness Without Noise, the body follows the mind—so do your best to fuel it with colorful foods that you genuinely enjoy.
Avoiding Your Phone
It’s incredibly easy to roll over in bed and start scrolling on your phone—but this is one of the worst habits we can start our day with. Looking at your phone first thing in the morning puts you in a reactive state rather than a proactive one, often triggering unnecessary stress and anxiety. To counter this habit (one that I’m still guilty of at times), try placing your phone out of reach the night before. Instead, reach for a book or step into one of your morning rituals. Personally, I like to work out before doing any serious scrolling—using my phone only to check the time if needed. This small shift boosts my productivity and makes my mornings feel far more intentional and fulfilled.
Listen To An Audiobook
This is such a pivotal part of my morning routine, and I truly think you would benefit from it as well. Reading and learning in the morning has been shown to boost mood, increase productivity, and build skills or knowledge you can carry into everyday life. I usually read a physical fiction book while also listening to a non-fiction audiobook. This setup allows me to move through my morning routine while still learning and growing. Right now, I’m listening to The Mountain Is You by Brianna West—it’s been great so far, and I’ll be sharing a full review later next week.
Plan Your Day
Use the beginning of your day to set the foundation for everything that follows. I know it can feel overwhelming to think about your entire day the moment you wake up—but hear me out. Planning your day isn’t about pressure; it’s about creating a simple template that helps you accomplish what matters to you. Write down a few to-dos and priorities you want to tackle. Plan your meals so you stay aligned with your yearly weight-loss goals. Think ahead to supper for your family or even a fun dessert you can enjoy together. A little intention in the morning can bring clarity, balance, and ease to the rest of your day.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, your morning doesn’t need to be perfect—it just needs to be intentional. Small, consistent habits done first thing in the morning create momentum that carries into everything else you do. Whether it’s a simple ritual, a nourishing breakfast, a few minutes of learning, or taking time to plan your day, these actions are a way of showing up for yourself before the world asks anything of you. Start your mornings with purpose, and you’ll quickly notice that the rest of your day begins to follow suit.
